I'm putting in the vararam intake this weekend and was wondering if I need to fabricate screens (or buy them) at the front to keep water out. Is it recommended? Thanks

I put the Z06 screens on to protect against ingesting squirrels and small dogs
I think if you use common sense and don't go plowing through deep water, what are you doing with the vette out in the rain anyway , you will be alright. I've had mine on for about 2 yrs and have gotten caught in some pretty good rain with no issues.
BTW, there was someone with a Z06 that took his screens off because they were impeding airflow intot he VaraRam. He said to drive down the highway and hold one out the window and see how much they block.
Unless your practicing to be a U Boat captain, water isn't a major issue! As long as you don't drive through any puddles deeper than 2-3" you should be fine! I have driven my car through some torrential down pours and have never had any major issues. You may see some MAF codes! There will be some moisture that is ingested in heavy rain storms! It will cause the MAF to freak out and give you codes that indicate high and low air flow codes at the same time. I just reset them and not worry about it. Cant remember what the code were exactly.
As for screens,,I would install them for looks! I have a Z06 and like the look of the screens. My recommendation is to see if you can find the OEM screens for a reasonable price and install them. It will help keep the elephants out!!!

And don't forget about giraffes, I hate it when they get sucked up the intake..
