Default Kirban or Ripper

I installed a Kirban shifter in my 2000. I get a blast of hot air from that location now, especially with the windows down. Does anyone know how to correct this problem? Does the ripper have the same problem? What about the Hurst shifter?

Is there a custom rubber boot for the Kirban?

I don't recall having a problem like that when I had the Kirban in my car.

Did you reinstall the heavy rubber boot?

Did you reinstall the stock rubber boot that covers the shifter housing? If you didn't this will help! I think the Ripper has it's own rubber boot that is installed under the replaced stock boot for double insulation.

Yep, I installed the factory rubber boot. The problem is that the boot doesn't completely fit over the kirban unit. There is an air gap at the tunnel, therefore hot air.

I've had my Kirban for quite awhile and haven't experienced this problem.

I guess I need to go back in abd get a better seal with the rubber boot. There was a gap when I instaled the Kirban. It was like fitting a square peg in a rond hole though.

How did you make the boot fit? Just force it over the Kirban?

I took a piece of neophrene (about 4"X4") and cut a small hole in the middle of it. I then threaded it on the shifter shaft (the hole should be small enough to be a tight fit) above the rubber boot and below the leather boot. The neophrene covers the hole in the rubber boot and also acts as a noise/vibration absorber. Didn't need to do anything else, my Kirban is as quiet and vibration free as stock. Hope this helps.

I took some foam pipe insulation, that is split in the middle. (home depot. sears hardware, etc....) Wrappped it around the shifter, slid it down towards the base, and secured it with zip ties. ust don't let it go too far op, ya don't wanna have a bulging boot! This also helped reduce some noise/vibration.

Thanks for the tip. It worked, no more hot air.

I remember someone using a universal CV joint boot
to solve the problem. Think he said from a local auto
parts store.
