I would think the opposite for a car with aerodynamics like ours. It's not like our windshield sits almost straight up like a 60's muscle car.

Heat is the enemy of HP. The more heat one can remove from the engine bay the better.

Extractor hoods are excellent and may be the best way to get heat out, but are expesive.

For non-zo6 guys, cutting out the fog light schoud and putting in zo6 screens helps lower engine temps 10-15*. I am not a big fan of V-ram for this reason alone, as it blocks cooling air into the engine bay. I dont want to start a V-ram debate, not at all, that is just my opnion ON COOLING ALONE, not power produced or not produced.

Ceramic coated long tubes helps remove heat as well. ( these also keep the foot wells in the cabin cooler.

Lower t-stats dont really do to much at speed, but do help at lower speeds, stop-n-go traffic, sitting while at idle at the strip.

Heck the vipers need to turn on the heaters even in the summer to remove heat from the engine bay.

At the track between runs we lift the hoods to help get heat out of the engine bay. and some times use fans to blow air thought the gril to cool the bay.

I'm sure it's not as high as earlier cars but it's still higher pressure than in the engine bay, so air will go in there, not out. Even IF the pressure was low there I wouldn't want to open it up. Why would I want to expose the cabin vent intake to hot engine bay air, or give rain water yet another way into the engine bay?

The fender extractor vents are the best way to get rid of underhood heat. There just insnt a better way to do it. I took out the driver side a couple minutes ago and it took about 3 minutes.

I looked at the passenger side and the battery surround and not sure how much if any will escape out the right side vent once that is taken out. There is stil alot of blockage. It started raining so I pulled back in the garage and cant get to that side of the car right now to further check it.

Removing the rubber hood seal would accomplish removing heat at a standstill and very low speeds which would probably help, but once up to speed it would be a wash and the vents would be the greatest.
