Default Has anyone used this Cam profile?

I am interested in getting this compcam part# 54-424-11 XR265HR with a 212/218 duration @.500 and .558/563 @.500 on a 115 LSA, does anyone have any experience with this cam. The reason why I like this profile is because I live in California and I think it should pass smog.

This cam will be used with Dart Pro 1 LS1 heads. The rest of the car set up is as followed.
1998 Coupe
60,xxx miles
-A4 Transmission
- Stinger intake
-28lbs injectors (98 stock)
-MSI Tune
-3.42 gears

this is my daily driven car and I am hoping to get into the 430 Hp range at flywheel. I figure the 2002 z06 is rated 405 HP with their heads and cam relatively close to the CompCam. I think the dart pro 1 LS1 heads are really good heads so it should produce more HP and torque.

Please give me input, thanks!

I'm running the Comp 218/218, .561"/.561" on a 114, which has a little more intake duration, and more overlap. It passes fine, and sounds stock at idle. I'd go to that at least. Others say 224/224, but I don't think you gain that much with that Vs. the 218. See sig. for my output with this cam and mild 5.3L heads.

6Speeder,

Do you remember if the stock cams are split durations? Also since you are running a similar cam profile, do you feel the car picked up noticeable HP/Torque and was a difference you can feel?

In the past i ran a 224/224 114 591 lift and had no problems passing ca smog. I have heard you can go up to a 224/228 114 and still pass. With the cam that you are looking at I think the z06 cam is the same specs as yours and with the heads you should be around 360-370 rwhp You will not feel alot of performce out of that cam. I would sugest you go to a bigger cam like the 224 or maybe even a 220/224 .

I really would like a 115 LSA but I am open to options for higher durations like 218/2xx? or 220/2xx? I would like the car to sound pretty close to stock and I am open to other cam manufactors as well. CompCams seems to offer more variety of LS1 cams and more details. Opinions?

I dyno'd before at 330 rw, after heads/cam/headers I was at 412. So, yep I definatly felt the difference.

Yep, comp cam will grind anything. I have a custom ground comp cam, 224/224 .581 lift on a 115LSA...

Also I think you would be happy with the MTI stealth cam 220/220 .581 .581 115LSA or the stealth II 224 220 .581 .581 116. Either cam should make you goals, drive real nice, and pass smog.. Texas Speed also has a 220/220 .581/.581 that can be ordered on a 116LSA. So you have alot of options out there for off the shelf cams.

Like other have posted, go up in cam. 220 - 224 on 114 will easily pass smog, idle @ 550 and get you the numbers you want.

Sounds like a good, streetable cam.

BTW: Duration is usually listed @ .05", I'm sure that's just a typo.

6Speeder,

It was a typo, thanks I hope and think the cam should make good HP and torque in street RPM range.

Guys CompCams suggest a change in my custom grind because of the valve life expectancy. The changes are as followed, very similar but notice the duration is wider producing a less aggressive ramp.

New CompCams Grind
218in. 224Exh LSA 115
lift @.005 .563in .568Exh

Original CompCams Grind
218in. 220Exh LSA 115
lift @.005 568in .570 Exh

In my opinion.. thats a weiner cam. I'd go larger. LG makes a couple of their smaller cams that will pass emissions and make great power. I don't think you will make your 430 hp goal with it and a couple bolt ons.

I agree with the MTI Stealth II choice. Although emissions is not as restrictive in AZ (as in CA), I went for it for the torque range (as opposed to top end) and street manners. The Stealth II is suppose to pass CA emissions

I am not sure what horsepower it will make but I think it will be close to 425-430HP at FLYWHEEL, not rwhp. Anyhow I think this will be a huge difference over my stock cam .479/.472 lift on 117LSA and a duration of 207/199. With the dart 205 and beehive springs, this will be a fun car to drive.
