Just to make things clear, this is an experiment...no clue what the results will be...possibly throw codes....there is a retrofit MAF mod sold by PFYC for 60 bux, however this is only for years up to 2000. Has anyone tried this mod with success. Well my c5 is 02, and the MAF cannot be dissasembled, Is this the only reason the mod ends in 00. Well i was thinking of just punching out the screen (very carefully), haha what are your thoughts...
Second of all people say upgrading the MAF is pointless...correct me if im wrong but the MAF takes air flow readings which is read by the computer and in turn the fuel delivery is affected is it not? More air more fuel more HP?

i wouldnt try to knock out the screen because of the risk of breaking the filiments, the maf shows air going into the throttle body it replaced the map sensor that measured changes in manifold air pressure, eather way they help control the air to fuel ratio
People have mixed reviews with this mod. The screen acts are an air "strightener"(SP). Some people complain of pining after the removal due to running to lean. Others have reported no problems. IMHO I would not do it.
There is a difference in flow between a screened and de-screened MAF. This difference must be accounted for in the calibration of the MAF table. So...if you de-screen the MAF and don't alter the MAF table you will have problems.
GM increased the MAFS size in 2001 from 75 mm inside diameter to 85 mm. If you have the stock H/C you won't gain anything de-screening the larger MAFS.
That said, many people here have done it and there rarely seems to be any ECU issues. The screen is in front of the heated wire sensors so if you remove it the MAFS will think the engine is under slightly higher load (it will measure more air flow) and should adjust the short term and eventually the long term fuel trims (hopefully).
I would leave it alone since you probably won't gain anything and there's always the chance that the ECU wont like the change and throw codes.
Spend the $$$ on a good cold air intake, if you don't already have one.
