I disagree with this write-up. You are going to squeeze the gaskets multiple times. I spoke to ARP about this and they told me the pre-torque five times is for rod bolts, not for head studs/bolts. I plan to use the standard torque sequence and step from 20 to 40 to 70 lb-ft on the larger studs and 23 lb-ft on the small ones. The torque values on the pink sheet is not correct. Best to call ARP tech support.

I have never installed studs myself, but I found that on LS1tech so I thought that I would post it up. I'm with you about not pre torqueing the studs. I thought that this was weird because I never did anything like that with my ARB head bolts but then again I have never installed studs. Thanks for the info.

Seem to get conflicting info depending on what tech you talk to over there. According to their website, the slip that comes with the studs, and the tech I talked to, you definitely want to pre-stretch/torque the studs. I learned the hard way when I skipped it and started leaking coolant. The info on my site (blackcamaro) is direct from their mouth. By the way its 65ft-lb for aluminum and 70 for cast iron.

The instructions say to install the studs hand tight into the block.

I used a little oil instead of the moly lube because the tube is small and didn't want to run out.

I will use the moly lube on the upper portion of the threads and both sides of the washers.

There is no mention of pre stretching in the instructions....

Now I am really

Just spoke to "Al" @ ARP....vettenuts is correct.

My pink sheet does say 65 ft/lbs with aluminum.

No need to re-torque.

Watch out for the leaks then....

If you skip the pre-stretch I would at least go over them several times at the final reading (65 ft-lbs) until you get no give at all.
