Default Nooo!!! Not a leak!

Hi folks, when i went to swap discs in my cd changer, I noticed a bit of water pooled up in the rear center compartment... thats not good... i was searching the forums for leak information on the back of the car, but i didn't find anything that seemed to pertain to my problem... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

97 6speed Coupe...

The water is probably 1/2" to 1" deep!! Pooled up right below the cd changer, it could definately cause problems if it's allowed to remain...

Could i punch a drain hole in the bottom? LOL j/k... Wheres a likely point of entry in the back for water? The top is sealed tight, and the windows and whatnot all look great, plus there is no humidity in the cab, and the carpet back there is all dry... it seems to be isolated to just the compartment... has anyone else seen this problem? There doesn't seem to be any weather stripping between the hatch and the body... is that normal for this car? Please any help is greatly appreciated... if you need more details, please ask me any questions...

BTW, i'm in Washington... keeping it out of the rain is not an option... lol

I posted this in the general forums and didn't get any responses yet, so i figure i'll try here too.

-Thanks,
Dan

Ohhhhhh, yea!! There should be weather stripping!! All the way around the lip. I think that you hit the nail on the head!!
PM me with your e-mail address and I will try to find a picture of the weather stripping.

Right, well I tossed some good ol' 3M Autobody All-Around Sealant in there on both sides with pretty generous helpings... hopefull this fixes the problem because i can't find anywhere else it may be leaking from... Maybe someone might want to toss some info on this leak spot in Bill's "Leak Check" sticky.

My center compartment came with 2 or 3 holes drilled in the bottom. I noticed them when I installed my cd player. I plugged them up. I bought mine new so these holes came from the factory. Maybe I should have left them alone. I havent opened that compartment up in probably over a year. I'm going to go check it for water now.

Just checked...dry as a bone.

If you believe that you may have a leak at that seam, I recommend that you remove that speaker housing and seal the remainder of the seam. I would also leave the carpet out for a little while to see if the problem is relly repaired.

I was going to remove the speaker housing, but the factory sealant is still quite visible and healthy looking all the way up on those portions, so i haven't done that much yet... Yeah, the carpet is still out drying (well the carpet is dry, but the padding is still a little damp...) I plan on leaving it out until i can drive it in some rain, and if there isn't any coming soon, i'm going to blast the tire wells a bunch with a hose...
