Default Installed short throw..ran into a problem...

Got to installing the short shifter tonight.... started torquing the shifter down and one of the bolts snapped in half. I then proceeded to drill it out. In the process of drilling it out. (I dont know what this is called) Its the part the shifter bolts on to, its where the shifer ball goes into the linkage, the housing part. Well after a lot of cussing, sweating, and bleeding, I drilled to far to the left of the hole. So now I have the shifter bolted down in all 3 corners, with half of the screw exposed on the bottom right corner.

So now I am looking for this part. The housing the shifter bolts onto. I have screwed this thing up beyond repair. It will work for the time being but where can I get this part and what is it called?

I will try and get pics if I dont make any sense

I might be alone here , but I think three bolts will hold it just fine . Replacing the housing may be a big job , you may need to work from under the car .
Good luck .

Might try posting a WTB in the Parts for Sale section. Lots of guys are going with the C6 Z06 shifter which replaces the entire shifter assembly. They might sell you their old one. If all else fails call Ficthner or Fred Beans Chev (supporting vendors) and get a new one. The C6 Z06 complete with **** goes for around $200. Changing them out is not difficult, only three bolts hold it in, if I remember correctly and no, you don't install from the bottom. Assuming that I correctly understood what happened I'd say that you're in less trouble than you think!

The housing and shifter all comes as an assembly, even on the C5. Your best bet, as someone suggested, is to get a forum member that has replace the shifter assembly to sell you their spare housing.

When you get the new housing, I would suggest you not try to actually torque bolts that small. I would just snug them down so they are fully seated. If you are worried about them coming loose, use a little blue Loctite.

The part number for the C5 Z06 shifter assembly is 10331310, about $150 on GMPartsDirect.com.

I would grind the broken bolt off flat with the housing, fill the hole with J B Weld, reinstall the cover after it hardens and then drill it out and retap the hole. It should be good as new!!!

I think you have 3 options.
1 You could just leave it as is. 3 bolts should be plenty to hold it in place.
2 Do as Bill Curlee recc. above
3 Try Gene at Karshop and see if he has a used shifter section you could purchase. This replacement would probably be the most work of the 3 by far.

Do it right. I have a 20k housing you can have, it just bolts on w/ 2 bolts i believe. PM me your addy and ill get it out. Easy to replace in car w/o any more disassembly. GM engineered thsi car well. This is what I have, it is 2 bolts as stated above:

I accidently broke the bolt that is outside the main 4 bolts for the base. I broke one of the bolts that hold that dust rubber protector thing in place. Stupid B&M instructions told me to torque it too much and it snapped. Do you think this can be drilled out and fixed or should I not even worry about it? All the bolt does it help secure the dust sheild.
