00' mn6 reverse catching

Just recently when I move into reverse, just like normal, it goes up and feels like it is in gear, but when I start to release the clutch, give gas... there is a loud spinning noise, not grinding, like it's not catching (which it isn't ) so if I give it a little more effort, more than it has taken in the past, it will move up just a bit more, and all is well.
I did a few searches and read up on the reverse lockout solenoid... is that what it sounds like to y'all? the solenoid going out? I will see if there are any codes being thrown when I get off work...
oh and I haven't done any work besides the c6 shifter, and that was maybe 8 months ago..

See if this helps : Prior to going into gear, put the car in neutral, let the clutch out, and then clutch-in and go into reverse. I find I have to let the gears spin up (syncronisers?) before it will go into gear.
I noticed you swapped your shifter out. Make sure it's still tighted properly to the tunnel. That also can wreak havoc.
