Default Need help with 39 codes :(

Hey guys.

Last year my car was consistant.
Generally no codes other than knock sensor every once in a while. Everything worked well.

This year, everything has went haywire.

I figured I better just try and get some guidance before heading off in my own direction.

Here are my codes that I pulled this morning. After clearing all and going for a short drive.

pcm
H P1571 ASR Desired Torque -C
H P1626 Theft Deterrent System Fuel enable Circuit -C
H P1644 Delivered Torque Output Circuit -C

TCS
H U1301 Class 2 Circuit Shorted to battery Refer to Data Link Connector System Check in Wiring System
H C1278 TCS Temporarily Inhibited by PCM
H U1016 Loss of Communications with PCM

RTD
H C1780 Loss of Steering Position Signal

BCM
HC B0432 Rear Defogger Relay Circuit
H U1255 Serial Data Line malfunction
H U1016 Loss of Communications with PCM
H U1096 Loss of Communications with IPC (No State of Health Message)

Normal B1543 Oil Temperature Circuit Open

That many codes?!

The only times I've seen that many come up at once are one or both of 2 reasons:
1. Bad battery
2. Bad grounds (see Bill Curlees posts in the "sticky" section at top)

I just got a brand new battery and tested another battery just to make sure that it was not the issue.

I started working on the grounds. Managed to find all body grounds in the engine compartment but not the engine mounted grounds.

I plan on finishing the rest of them.

I guess there is some consolation when a ton of codes are thrown.
It's almost never a catastrophic failure of mulitiple componentry, but a screwy issue with power delivery because of a weak battery or faulty ground.
I'm hoping not to have to chase down grounds myself. It looks like a time intensive pain in the ****!

I got to rear ground points.

Much to my surprise their was an "adjustment" to the wiring harness near the back pax side. It appears that the wire must have been accidentally cut when the previous owner had the aftermarket exhaust installed. So they just connected the two wires around the connector by "wrapping them up" Arghhh.

I properlly connected and soldered the wires and took care of both of the ground cleanings.

Cranked it back up and I still got TEMPORARY "service vehicle soon and shocks inoperative", but not dozens of codes!

The one code that did pop up was the B0432 Rear Defogger Relay Circuit

So I'll go try to check those connections.


Any ideas on why I would still be getting 10 second shocks inop? It was almost as if it went away the moment the A/C blower cranked up.

Don't have an answer for you on the shock issue, but it sounds like you're getting down to some of the core problems here.

I know I've seen some pretty scary shortcuts folks have taken to half azz a job, only to have it bite someone else in the **** later. Makes you wonder what else you might find the more you look.

All but one of the codes you list are (H) history.
Meaning, they happened sometime ago.

If you clear them all, and they don't come back,
then no worries.

The loss of communication codes were due to
your battery swap. No worries.

The only one that seems current is the
rear defogger. Does it work? If not,
probably just a relay swap.

You're correct that the "H" denotes a previous code. However, from his first post, he cleared all codes first and then went for a drive before these codes were thrown. That is why I figured a bad ground, as I've seen them give off intermittent codes that suddenly clear up, only to return again.
