Get some kid's play dough but make sure it is the soft kind. Make a little mound and close the hood.

I knew that was one possibility....just like checking valve to piston clearances. ;)
Thought someone might have an even simpler suggestion.
We'll see if anyone else salutes the question.

I can tell you what I did. I used the foam from an insta-pak machine. I filled therbag and closed the hood....waited five minutes and when I opened the hood I had a perfect mold that could be sectioned (if needed) to determine actual clearence.

Whoa! Now that's slicker than snot on a brass door ****. :D
I think I've figured a way to use a straight edge and a T-square in a fairly simple manner......the complicated part is trying to do a write up. I'll have to give my procedure a check out and if it works easily, I'll attempt to write it up and post.
