Default Memeory Function Driving Me CRAZY

I just purchased a 2000 C5 a few months ago and the only thing that I can not seem to figure out is the Memory Function for the seats, mirrors, etc. After reading the owners manual on the subject several times I still can't figure it out. In fact, the other night, I got into the car, put the key into the ignition, and the seat proceeded to impale me on the steering wheel. I thought they were going to have to use the jaws of life to free me!
Anyways, I know I am probably but can anybody help me figure out how to use the memory, or, better yet, deactivate it?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes the memory works when I put in the key, sometimes the easy exit works when I remove the key. I can't figure it out. I'll just live with it since I only drive it in nice weather which is rare in Columbus, Ohio.

I'm sure you've looked, but are you setting the correct memory for the key fob you are using (i.e., #1 vs. #2)?

Ok Place the key in the ignition while you are outside of the auto and let the memory do it thing. After it has finished adjusted everything, you can start adjusting seats, mirror, radio station and climate controls to the way you like them. Now push and hold the #1 memory buttom that is on the door until it start flashing, release and it will flash until programming takes, when it stops flashing it is now set for you. Mark the key you have in the ignition with something personal, so that you and all other will know that it's your key and set to your personal setting. If you have a second key and your other halve drives the car repeat procedures to her personal setting. You should be good to go.

I am using the correct fob for the respective memory, although I was'nt at first.
I will try JR_VET's suggestion and let you know if it works.
Just out of curiosity though, has anybody disconnected/disabled the memory? I am the only one that drives the vette, so I really have no need to have it functioning.

Yeah, I always thought the car was reading the key, but it actually reads which fob unlocked the car. I learned this when my wife used her fob to unlock the car, then I got in a minute later and started the car with my key. Like you, I was impaled.

I have the same problem in my 2000. I found that if I start the car while my seat is moving it works 99% of the time.

I have not had this problem, but if I did, what comes to mind is disconnecting the battery overnight to reboot and clear the memory circuit. Then reprogram it to your liking again.

It's kind-of like a home computer. Sometimes rebooting the thing gets all back to normal.

Two things that seem to confuse people a lot about the memory option are:

1) Upon initial entry into the car, the car will only return things to the appropriate settings if you unlocked the car with a key fob.

2) The memory option will only work when the car is not moving. Hitting a memory button whilst the car is in motion has no effect.

When I first got my car, I would frequently forget these two points, and the behavior of the system seemed somewhat arbitrary and capricious. I also cursed a number of times at the climate control system, until I realized that its settings were also being remembered by the memory option.

Make sure that the ease entry function in the DIC is turned ON. Your FOB's have memory functions assigned to them. If you train your fobs, it will ask you for FOB#1 then FOB #2. It will also allow you to program a third FOB #3. The FOB that you program on #1 is #1 FOB. ect ect! When you want the seat to adjust to your settings, make sure that you use your FOB or press your memory setting button on the door.

Once my seat would not fully retract to the ease entry position. I have long legs and need the seat to go all the way back. Sooo,,, i MANUALLY set the seat to the full rear, full seat lower and full lower seat tilt. I disconnected the battery, reconnected it and re configured all the memory functions. It worked like a champ!

Ron Dittmer & Bill Baird provided good info!!!

Thanks all. I will now try the reboot overnight procedure and start fresh. How do you train the FOB's? I did not see a procedure for this in the owners manual.

Also don't forget the memory option does not work if the driver's door is open when you insert the key into the ignition.....

My car is at the dealership now for memory function issues. Mine doesn't work most of the time. I get in the seat starts to adjust and then stops. The memory light just blinks. If I hit it enough times it finally get the seat in the correct position.

I will let you guys know if they find anything....

The procedure is in there!! Its under FOB Training and Sync.

You need to Train first and if ever necessary you can re-sync.

Dealer was able to duplicate my problem with the memory function..They said a "reflash" fixed the problem.

I have a bad feeling that my tune is now gone 8-(

They SHOULD have only flashed the BCM (Body Control Module), and your tune is in the PCM (Power Control Module). That being said, most dealers don't know and they will flash both "just to be on the safe side".

Hopefully your tuner has your tune saved on their computer.

Did you guys know that besides the Memory 1 and Memory 2 buttons, there is a Memory 3 button? There is...press Memory 1 and Memory 2 at the same time to achieve it. If you're wanting to program Memory 3, then hold down both Memory 1 and Memory 2 at the same time for three seconds. Then press both at the same time for recall.

Later,
Shayne
