Default Weird DIC message: Remove Key, wait 10 seconds

Like the title says, after filling up my tank at the pump the other day, I got a weird message when I tried to start the car.

"Remove Key, Wait 10 seconds"

I did, and all is well, but why?

That message usually means that the security system did not read the resistor pellet that is embedded in your key correctly. There are a few things that can cause this.

One is that the contacts on the key are dirty and need to be cleaned. alcohol works well!

The other is that the little contacts in the ignition cylinder are dirty or worn. For the most part, removing the key and reinserting it back in the ignition corrects the problem. If you don't remove the key and reinsert it like the message asks, when you try to move the car, the engine will STALL!!

The security system cuts off the fuel and kills the engine.

Hopefully, it's just a dirty resistor pellet. If you have a second key, give that one a try.

I find Johnny Walker Blue Label to be the most effective, but some of the cheap guys here will just use rubbing alcohol.

Every time I got that message with my C5 and every time my old C4 (with VATS) wouldn't start it was because I got the key wet.
