The new Yank Transmission is leaking from the rear seal, according to my dealer Tech. The problem is, that he is to busy to take it back apart. My question is, any chance of the leak stopping after driving it some? I might not get to go to BG if it doesn't get fixed. The car has been in the shop for more than 2 weeks and has just got me sick. The Corvette Tech is a friend and I don't want to say to much, I might never get my car. I'm having Major Withdrawal not having my car. :cry
The out put shaft seal (rear seal) on the A4 and the input seal on the rear differential use the same seals and both of them are not prone to leakage unless distorted during assembly or disassembly.Due to fluid pressure in an auto trans, more than likely it wont correct itself. :(
Unless your friend is doing your work as a favor without compensation I would question the value of this friendship . If you have paid or are expecting to pay for his work I think you need to be a bit more forceful in demanding that your vehicle be repaired by a reasonable date and advise him that ,if not repaired by that date, you will take the car elsewhere to be repaired and will hold him accountable for the cost of the repair. If your friend has done your work without expecting compensation and you feel that he isn't getting to your car because he has givien priority to his paying customers and you feel he can do the job properly than offer to pay him for the work if done correctly and timely. If this doesn't work take the car to someone else you know who is reliable. Get your agreement as to cost ,work to be performed and completion date. in writing.Eventually it will be repaired. I know how annoying this can be.
My rearend was leaking because the o-ring in the breather was stuck closed. This caused the left seal on the rear-end to leak...this may be your problem. don't know anything about the new tranny though.
Thanks C-5 TECH. I just needed another opinion on the seal.
The YANK transmission came complete and isn't the fault of my friend. He even went ahead and changed the seal in the rear end to be safe, even though it wasn't leaking. He had no reason to think that the new tranny seal was bad. It's not his fault. This is not a free job, this dealer charges more than most for the same work. I guess I will wait it out for now.
I have started thinking about a new garage with a lift to do all my work and not have to depend on someone else.
I called Mike at Yank and he told me that their was no rear transmission seal and that their was no pressure on the output shaft. We know that wasn't right. So after a good laugh, we called back and talked to his Transmission man and I guess he straighten Mike out on that one
As far as getting paid by YANK for the extra labor involved, we will have to wait and see how this plays out. I just want to go racing again :D
