Default LapTrax Controler

I just completed the installation of the LapTrax TracActive Controller. This is the device I have been looking for. It will set the car into Competitive Mode automatically at startup or it can also be set to completely disable all traction controls as well. The kit I installed also clears the DIC confirmation after a short reminder period. You can still change all of the settings by using the button on the console.
The installation was quick and easy with the exception of the blue wire to reset the DIC. This was a little awkward just because you need to get up under the dash.

If you don't mind, just how difficult is the blue wire! I can't decide which model to order for this very reason!

Thanks,

You need to remove the knee bolster trim, and that is no big deal. You then need to access the connector to the back of the DIC switch panel and that is where it grts a little more difficult. You have to reach up blinly and feel for the connector, it is narrow and about 1-1/4" long. It pulls out very easily and there are no tabs that you need to squeeze to remove it. You then need to feel along the wire loom and unclip it from a couple of retainers. But even with all of that the connector and the wire you need to access is still up under the dash but low enough that with a little contorting you can get the, supplied, connector on to the wire. Repluging the connector, although blind, was not too bad. The difficult part was just working blind under the dash in a tight spot. If you are still undecided you might want to buy the module with the blue wire for reset and if it turns out to be more than you wanted just don't connect the wire. It appears the module will then just act the same as the non-reset version.

Thanks for the good feedback Tom!

There is no problem if you have a deluxe version and don't connect the blue wire for the DIC automatic reset. The controller will still work normally.

We've thought about making the DIC reset a programming option as well, but there is a limit to what you can do conveniently with one button!

We'll take another look at the possibility. If we find a good way, it's a simple software change to make it happen.

I asked that same question in an email a few hours ago & already got a response... WOW!!! 24 hour a day customer service !!!

I'm going to try mine without the blue wire first to see how I like it.

Thanks for the responses!

Mike, that would be a really cool feature if you could figure it out!

I wouldn't sweat getting the blue wire for DIC reset connected. I like the Competitive Mode display in the DIC, that way I can't forget and get in trouble. On a long trip I clear the message. As many people have said, "it's just a push of a button". So I push the buttion every now and then to feel important.

It's a great device, I enjoy the A4 a lot more with the Intelligent Controller.

Funny, I was just thinking this morning how much I love the DIC automatic reset. All I have to do is start the car and latch my seatbelt. Memory seat, easy entry, TracActive, damn I'm getting lazy!

Now if I could only do something about having to push that pesky garage door button! Maybe in version 2.0.......

Not to keep stringing this along, but a bunch of people have asked so...

The TracActive FAQ is now online at:

Thanks!
