I bet he just found out about the latest recall, especially if your column locked, because the previous recalls didn't remove the locking plate, unless it was an automatic. BTW, you never did tell us what happened. Did your column lock, or did you have fuel shut off?

I got the message telling me to remove my key and wait 10 seconds. I did so and then my column was locked up. I then got the message to have the column serviced. And yes, it is an automatic. It is home now and working great.
