Default P0300 Trouble Code

Just my luck when I needed to take the C5 to get smogged, the dreaded trouble code showed up. I kinda have a hint since the car was behaving out of its normal tip top shape. Pulled code using the Predator and sure enough, misfire is the reason it hesitates and has rough idle.

Im suspecting foul plugs, but at 25K, shouldnt the stock plugs last longer than that? My car is not a daily driver and it does not see competition. Just your usual spirited driving on weekends.

Im thinking of changing the plugs and maybe wires since Im at it. Anybody use MSD wires? I have a set of NGK TR55s to replace the stock plugs on order. I do, however, have a set of TR6s in the garage I picked up from another forum member. Will it work for my stock application?

Reset the code and see if it comes back. Any number of things can trigger the misfire code.

Tr6's might be a little cold for a stock motor. I would do plugs and wires and see if that takes care of it. Could even be bad gas.

My thoughts exactly! I was thinking it might be the fuel. I never bought anything but Chevron 91, but the stuff in the car is still the winter formula. I plan to use it up on the weekend and see how it goes.

I will go with the TR55s after I fill up with new gas. I just cant believe my plugs went bad too early.

Most likely bad fuel.

Run out as much as you can of what you have in there and then throw in a can of dry gas. It won't hurt to oxygenate your fuel with a little extra alcohol when you are on doing the emissions test anyway...

TR6s are typically a plug ran for NITROUS and such. Personally I would just go with a set of ACDELCO Irdiums and be done with it. As stated before, clear the code (after plug change) and see if it returns.
