Driver's side power window quit working on my '99 FRC. Did a search and found lots of good info; ranging from "you have to replace the whole motor & regulator assembly", to "slam the door a few times and it might free it up". Took the door panel off, and removed the speaker & plastic shield. Took the cover off the motor, cleaned everything with aerosol electrical contact cleaner; plugged it back in and it works
Just spent the afternoon working on both windows of a friends coupe.
The driver's window would not go down, so we replaced the whole mechanism with a used window regulator assembly (removed from another Corvette to convert to a race car) and got it to work.
Turned out the cable had gotten twisted up on the spool on the original motor drive, but the motor still worked.
The right side had also quit working, so we took it out and the cables looked good, but the motor would not drive the window up or down.
We decided to take the motor off the left side that just had the cables messed up and transfer it to the right side mechanism. We changed the motors and got both sides working. It's a miracle!
When it rains it!!!!! The passenger window and door lock quit working on the Z06 last week and today the drivers window on the 02 2500HD quit as well. GM, we have a real problem here!
As I read these post it is clear GM should be doing a recall to take care of all these. There are probably hundreds or thousands we have not heard about. I have put up with GM's electronics problems for the past 15 years.
Both windows are now up but will not work. I've tried the tricks everyone has mentioned here so I guess its time to start pulling things apart and find out whats wrong. Sorry to rant but two vehicles so close together.
Fixed my passenger window last night. It quit working a few years ago and had the motor replaced under warrenty. Since then it has quit working (always in the up position, thankfully) 5-6 times. This is my no cost fix and it has worked every time. Remove the door panel and pull down the black rubber like seal. Locate the motor. Using the side of a hammer or vice grips, hit the motor at the same time you are pressing the down button. Go ahead and hit it pretty sharply. Presto! Down goes the window. Good luck.
