Burning!!
I owned an LT1 trans am.. and after high speeds I could apply the brakes and come to fair stop, no noise, no smells (stockish brakes/pads).... With my vette every time I brake from high speeds it spells like clutch... Also I get a ticking sound afterwards (slotted/drilled)... is this normal?
Also is decompressing with my transmission to help stop bad on my drivetrain? Sorry about the n00b quesitons.... But i've never delt with such an issue...

Ive gone from 150 mph down to 40 really fast and never had a problem! The rotors get really hot but, they never smelled like a clutch. What kind of pads do you have, and are your calipers sliding properly on the slider pins? The caliper should float in and out on the two pins. If your pins are stuck, you could be only using one pad (inboard side). You need to disassemble your brakes and make sure that everything is 100% The C5 has the best brakes that I have ever seen on a car. Yea there are better systems that you can upgrade to but stock for stock they are one of the best i have ever had!! You shouldn't need to have to use the engine to assist you to stop!!! It doesn't hurt anything to do an engine compression down shift but like anything, it still causes extra stress on the engine internals. A set of brakes is a LOT less expensive than a timing chain.
