Default Retrieving stuff you drop beside the seat

I dropped the clip that holds my cell phone cable mike in place down on the right side of the drivers seat. I either need to find a member close by who has a kid with REALLY skinny fingers to retrieve that bad boy or else learn how to take out the bottom cushion. I have a bad feeling that this isn't going to be as easy as it was on my C-4 (clip under front of the cushion), but don't want to disassemble/remove the seat unless there is no alternative.

Right, the cushion is not that easy to remove, but the seat itself comes out in a jif - just 4 nuts and the seat track comes up with the seat off the floor. The only trick is taking off the plastic covers in the front so you can get at the nuts. If you have a problem, send me a pm and I'll try to walk you through it.

it is easy to remove the seat. I did it to put in my harness bar. Here are some pics....

Default No kids with skinny hands

What a group and what a board!

I can probably kill three birds with one stone now that I have to take the seats out. They have that forward/backward movement that is covered in another thread so I can fix that too. Also, the seat back pivots 15-20 degrees rather than being fixed, like on my C$ and that may mean something is broken. Need to check for a thread on wobbly seat backs.

Thanks SO much for the reply and the link!

Couldn't you use one of those little claw type retrieval tools? You know, the kind where you push the button on the top and the 3 or 4 claws open up on the bottom. Don't know what the proper name for it is, but they are very handy.

Another option would be a magnet on the end of something, if the clip is something that a magnet will stick to.

If I could see the **@&*(^$* piece I probably could. It's plastic so fishing in the blind with a magnet won't work. I may just try fishing in the blind from the front of the sheet with the grabber. Thanks for the tip.

Ask me if I'll be more careful about dropping stuff.

Interesting you should mention that. I'm hoping because it is such a b&^%#tch to get under there that I'll find something valuable.

If you are talking about the seat backs moving up 20 degrees without using the latch (at the back top), they are suppose to do this. Suppose to give you easy access to briefcase in back.

Thank ya vurry much!

I don't know that much about my C5 yet and you probably just saved me several hours of trying to "fix" something that would have screwed up something else.

Something else you could try is clean out your shop vac canister first, then stick the hose back under the seat. Maybe you can suck it up with the vacuum, then retrieve it from the canister.

I'm assuming you have adjusted the seat bottom all the way forward and all the way up. Sometimes that gives you a surprising amount of access to the area under the seat for cleaning, retrieving things, etc.

If it was me, I wouldn't tear out the seat just to retrieve that clip. If none of the other suggestions work, I'd just leave it there and buy another clip. If your luck is like mine, I'd end up busting something and creating more and bigger problem$ in the process of taking the seat out. I know you really want the clip outta there, but sometimes you just have to let well enuff alone.

if you screw up taking the seat out I might think twice about even driving.....

4 small nuts need to be taken out. The bolts even stay in place so there is no worry about dropping one of them....

Actually I consider myself a pretty accomplished mechanic, but getting to be so taught me that if something can go wrong, it will. And it's always those "quick & easy" jobs that turn into the biggest nightmares it seems.

I've never had a seat out of a Vette, but aren't there wires to disconnect? I don't remember how many of those silly locking connectors have broken on me over the years, no matter how careful you are with them. Only four nuts and the bolts stay in place? What happens when you accidentally strip one...then you wish the bolt did come out.

I'm just saying, $hit happens, and I personally wouldn't remove a seat just to retrieve a cell phone clip.

you are right if there is no reason to remove it then why do it.

there are wires and yes I have broken those dam clips too. he seat can be lifted and out of the way without taking the wires off though.

and of course it is the "quick and easy" jobs that get you because you are not paying attention. I stink at all this stuff so I take my time with everything (I also take tons of pics so I know where the left over parts go )
