Default New to forum need help please

Hi I'm new to the forum I bought a black 98 C5 m6 two months ago.
I was driving home last night and the dash & headlights started to
blink when I got to the house I got out and let the car run with all
the lights on, wallked around and all the lights were cutting on & off
at the same time! So I did a search and seen the threads on ground
connections but seems no one had all their lights cut off and on. It
looks like I need to clean all the grounds but for right now can anyone
tell me if this is the problem and which wire to look for?
I want to thank the forum members for all the tips and info I have
read over the past month. Great place. Rickey

Are the lights actually going on and off or just dimming slightly?

The lights are dimming to the point they are allmost out, but if shut off the engine they stay on.

Your headlights driving lights and daytime running lights grounds are all connected together in to a "SPLICE PACK" (SP-101) which is taped to a wire in the front bumper area on the passengers side. From that SP, the main ground wire from the SP goes to Chassis Ground connector G-102 which is just aft of the passengers head light assembly and inboard of the spot where the hydraulic hood support bolts the the fender well.

It would also be prudent to clean ground G-101 which is in the same area but on the drivers side. Those two grounds are the most problematic of all the chassis grounds.

Its also avery good idea to disconnect the battery before removing the grounds. While the battery is disconnected, clean the battery connections and terminals. Make sure that you torque the battery cables on the battery to 11 ft/lbs.

See if that helps and let us know how it works for you.

Bill

It looks like your headlight issue is caused or amplified by vibration. Before you do any repairs to the grounds, I would have someone watch the lights while you wiggle and pull on the wiring harnesses, grounds and plugs with the engine off and see if you can find the area that is causing the bad connection.

I had a similar problem and it was a loose battery connection. Side terminal batteries are not the best type of connection, so I'd check that first.

You guys were right on the money first I took loose the ground connections G101 & G102 cleaned and reinstalled then cleaned the
battery cable connections, everything is working now. I do have a warranty but our club is hosting a muscle car event this sunday at a local track and I didn't want the car tied up at the dealer thanks again.
