How many of you have repaired or replaced your torque tube assembly? Wondering how many miles they are good for because I am at 70K and am getting ready to install a new transmission and converter. I would like to know if should be thinking about replacing it or not. Long term reliability is important to me.
Check with taaz024 (forum member). He has broken just about every part in his drive line...he can let you know what the weak links are on the torque tube. He even had some special parts machined for his torque tube...
I have Correct Replacment New Flex Couplings from the OEM Supplier. The three ball bearings in the Torque Tube are Std off the shelf items at any bearing supplier. I can ship flex disks to you or rebuild the entire unit. PM me for more info.
110,000 miles and mine went.
Look for play in the shaft itself.
I replaced mine with a 2002 z06 unit and i would do it again in a heart beat. I love my car again.
I had clutch balance issues caused by a botched install. This ruined the torque tube (bent) and destroyed the rubber bushings.
I had it replaced with an '02 torque tube, they are thicker than the '98's. Could not tell you if it was ready to go or if it would have lasted a lot longer if the clutch balance issues did not happen.
