When I put my LG headers on my car last year I cross-threaded the first bolt against the firewall on the driver side. Don't ask me why I didn't stop and correct it then, but for some stupid reason I didn't! Well, I decided I'd give it a shot to fix it and I was extremely nervous about the job with the aluminum head and all. I took everything apart, dropped the header down and made a template out of wood to bolt up to the head. Then I ran my tap into the hole using the wood to make sure it was nice & straight, and low and behold it worked! I'm not much of a mechanic, so I'm really breathing a sigh of relief! I had nightmares of having to call a real mechanic to come over and take the head off and helicoil it and all the resulting money (and embarrassment!) involved with that process! I put it all back together using Breslin bolts and all is straight & solid now. I'm going to have to have a beer (or 10) to celebrate!!!!
Congratulations! Makes you feel good when you fix something major like that doesn't it? If your like me you didn't fix it when you did the install because you wanted to get it back together and hope it would be o.k. rather then risk the head damage.
Amen, Bro! I was really sweating this one! I like to do whatever I can on this car, but I recognize my limitations. This one scared me and I'm very glad that it worked out. It seems like the jobs that other guys find to be simple really challenge me! I'm feeling pretty good about this one!
