Default Dyno or not to Dyno

C5 with new Vararam/Corsa X-pipe installed. What are some thoughts on Dyno tuning. Is it worth $600? A lot of money for possibly a few HP.

You need to do more extensive mods to make it worthwhile. Wait until you do heads and cam.

I would also wait until you at least put headers on before getting it tuned. Then if I knew I was going to do a H/C shortly after headers I'd wait and have it done just once.

Investing $600 for a one time dyno tune for what ever reason is $600 that you could put towards owning say EFI flashscan or HPTuners and a wideband O2 system. This would cost you less then two dyno tunes and then you can tune for every change. Every mod or change you do will need some degree of tuning to bring out the best results for your efforts. The ability to adjust idle speeds, set injector flow rates, power enrichment Rev limiter is worth it. The Forums will help you learn to use your new equipment. This advise is only if you're going to be a real player in the search for some real horse power.

First off $600 for a dyno tune is outrageous for a basic bolton setup. Secondly, you don't need a tune at all with your mods.

Thanks everyone. It is a lot of money and I didnt think I was doing anything major to warrant a tune-up. I will put that money towards something more desirable...

Most places only charge a small fee to retune. You could tune now and if you add headers in a year, tune it again for $50 or so. Then if in 2010 you add a turbo, the same shop would only charge $50 again to retune.

The shop should keep your file too, so he wouldn't have to download from your car each time.

Every car can benefit from a GOOD dyno tune, but it may not be worth the cost if you don't plan on anymore mods.

Shop around 600 for anything other than a speed density tune is silly. You can get it done for far less. Where are you located?
