Alignment gurus, is Caster adjustable on an alignment?
After paying $230 for an alignment I noticed that they fixed the camber problem that I had but in doing so the right front caster is now out of range (7.96 versus a range of 6.9 to 7.9) and the front cross caster is also out of range (-.61 versus a range of -.5 to +.5). Before I complain, is the caster adjustable on a Vette (some cars it isn’t)? I need to find a flat road without a crown to see if it tracks true.
Geographic location has some affect on the prie, but for $230 you should get a perfect alignment since the C5's are easy to align. Yes, the caster is adjustable and with the wide range allowed on alignment specs, you got an unacceptable job done if anything's outside factory specs.
Pretty much everything is adjustable on the C5. Caster is done with the two ecentrics on the lower control arm. They change caster and camber (and will affect toe) at the same time. If you run out of adjustment with the eccentrics on the front you can shim the upper arm in most cases.
That is a lot of money for an alignment! For that kind of money the job should have been perfect. Not only was it not perfect, they didn't even get you within acceptable limits!
If it tracks straight, then I wouldn't worry about it. I do my own alignment and my castor is a little different on both sides. Mine tracks straight, so I don't care what the numbers say. Don't feel to bad, I once paid $500 for a alignment that was way off on everything. That's when I gave up on going to shops and learned how to do it myself.
