Default What level hp should I be?

98 a-4

Going to add ls2 heads,220 cam on a 114,shorty headers( I know,lt's are better),and either an ls6 intake manifold or an ls2,.....I have both

The ls2 has a 90 mm throttle body opening, so I will have to acquire a new throttle body if I use that one.

I just don't know if it's worth the money,in my case.....

Any advise?

What would you guestimate my rwhp #'s to be?

Thanks guys!..I am getting pretty anxious

The Batvette is gettin' some wings!

I know your frustration. I would guestimate approx 360 -385 rwhp with that kind of set up...assuming yours is an A4. Of course there will be others who will be more lenient in their "guestimates", there always is.

I personally wouldn't waste time or money on "shorties". They're more for show than for go.

Thanks for your input

I understand your position on shorty's.
I know they don't yield that much, and I wouldn't pay $1,000 for their marginal return
But, I bought mine used, had them jet hot coated so they look new( and run cooler),and I only have less than $400 in them...

So they are a GO for me

OH, and BTW

Which intake manifold would suit me best? ls6 with stock tb,or ls2 with a 90 mm tb?( considering I would be out the cost of a 90 mm tb, ...Is it worth in my case???)

Default Just another note

If this helps with the estimate..........

The guy I got this stuff from dynoed 405 rwhp with this setup in his c-6 m-6

Does that help any?.I know I have a smaller tb,and engine displacement as well as an A-4....

Therefore the question

Mine is an '04 already with the "LS6" intake and matching TB....don't know if it's a 90mm or not.

I was told by my tuner that unless you're intending on getting up in the 450+ rwhp range, the stock TB flows just fine.

IIRC, the LS6 intake manifold is only good for something like 5 hp or so. Of course, if money is no object, go for it. Every few extra ponies you can get here and there will add to the overall total which you put to the pavement.

See sig for my current set up....similar to what you have in mind and I am presently putting about 365 to the pavement on the stock LS1 heads.

LT's will give more than marginal gains if you go with a good set such as American Racing.
Don't bother with the LS2 intake manifold, when it's all said and done you'll also need a new fuel rail and other misc parts, stick with the LS6.
I would also say around 380 to the wheels. Why not go with a slightly bigger cam though? Like a 224/224 or 224/228?

Ls6/1's are 78 mm I believe

Hmmmmm, I wonder why then the c-6's come with 90 mm tb's stock?

Either way, it looks like I will be heading to the parts for sale section

Magik draggin: do you happen to have a sound clip of your car at idle?
Thanks

Ok, I will have to sell this ls2 intake then....

The Cam? It came as a package deal for one, so it is bought and paid for.......from an ls2 engine...

Problem is: I am not sure it will work in an ls1 now

Anyone know for sure?

It's pretty short, but should give you a pretty good idea of what it sounds like.

Oh and regarding the larger TB on the C6, I would assume it's because of the extra inches of displacement...as well as the other "refinements" in the performance dept.

I've heard of there being some idle and other issues with 90mm TB's on stock displacement LS1's with only mild mods.

Interesting........No real noticeable lope

Is that because of the 114.5 lsa?

Yes, and some decent tuning. The idle is set at 800 rpm. Occasionally, depending on initial start up temps, the idle will momentarily drop to 600 rpms where there is a slight lope.....actually doesn't sound too bad at all.....am considering having the idle dropped down some and see if it will still run ok and not "load up" too much.

If the LSA were more in the 112 range, yes there would be a much more pronounced lope to it.

Ok, thanks
This is very useful information for me

Actually, I LOVE the lope,as long as it doesn't "search" to much

Default headers

Sounds like you bought some parts w/o a lot of research. As for as headers go I don't know of any shorty's that go for a $1000. You can get a set of good long tubes coated inside and out in nickle ceramic for $650 to your front door from Jet Hot. If you are interested in the most HP for the buck, you might try selling the shorty's and getting a set of long tubes.

Yes, it sounds like that, but it's not as bad as it sounds....
I was mainly in the deal for the ls2 heads, and they will work fine

I believe B+B stainless shorties are very near 1k new...give or take a couple of bucks............And those are what I have........jet hot coated

Maybe 350rwh max w/o a tune. 375-380rwh w/good LS1 edit custom tune.
