He needs to visit our shop,I have repaired about 30 of them...Anaerobic sealer on the side cover or it will leak again.RTV or other goop should not be used because it detiorates when in contact with synthetic fluids...
Re: Leaking differential left side round 2! (jasonberkeley)
jasonberkeley-- I had the same experience with a leaky differential cover and the second time it started leaking it also started making a lot of noise. As soon as my dealer said they were going to replace the differential (after three weeks of trying everything else :mad ) I was on the phone trying to get a new set of 3.42's. The tech who did the work said that he "would install whatever differential and gears are next to the car when I get there in the morning" so I made sure the set he would find was my new 3.42's. The new 3.15's that were shipped to the dealer found their way to my garage and are now for sale. Too bad the dealer wouldn't give me a credit for some other parts instead of the new gears though :(
Re: Leaking differential left side round 2! (Turbo5)
Ok! Here's the deal. I carried the vette back to the dealer after they had checked it out and thought it was the left differential leaking. They changed their minds and told me the fluid looked like transmission fluid. It was red. They tightened the bolts between the transmission and the differential and said the leaking stopped. I brought the car home to see if it is going to continue to leak.
What do you think guys, do they need to go ahead and replace the gasket between the differential and the transmission or should I just wait it out? I decided to wait it out. Let me know what you think.
Re: Leaking differential left side round 2! (Turbo5)
If it is leaking trans fluid out the back of the trans,it is leaking past the seal.
Tightening the two units together wont stop the leak past the seal.In other words, there is dead air space between the two units, with each having there own seal to prevent leakage between the two...Hope that made sense ;) Matter of fact,if you have an A4,there is slot to allow any leakage to drain out between the two units...
Re: Leaking differential left side round 2! (C-5 TECH)
Thanks for the info. I was skeptical of the "fix". You have been a big help. I am going to keep the car until after Labor day trying to catch some of the fluid leaking from the rear end. I will then carry it back to have the seals fixed.
Re: Leaking differential left side round 2! (TooManyIDs)
Hi there,
NOrmally, I do not reply to posts with c-5tech, however, this is one case where I can add something.
I do know that they are working on it, and that there is a new seal type coming out, that will address these leaking concerns.
I do NOT know when it will be released, however, it is coming, so dont think that they are NOT working on it.
I had talking in length with the driveline engineer, and he does concur that this is in the pipe. It is of a different type of design, thought I could NOT really get further descriptions, from what he has told me, the new setup should address all the issues.
