Hey I was finally hoping to replace my cheap Cavalier-grade stereo with one with satellite and mp3, but I'm hearing that you have to do some fairly intensive mods to the dash (or at least do more than just put the cheap plastic surround/mini storage bin in), and replace the door woofers 'cause they won't work without the factory stereo. ?!?!?
I'm guessing many of you have replaced your stereos - anyone willing to share their story? I could use a little advice/insight. Thanks!
Most of what you have heard is true. Dash mods depend upon what you plan on doing for a head unit. Come over and post in the audio/electronics forum, lots of people around to help, and read the C5 faq
There is a PAC adapter that allows you to add an aftermarket head unit to the factory BOSE system. As for the dash mods...it all depends on what you put in!

Adapters make all of your worries go away, for the most part. If you get a single DIN receiver you can get a faceplate to get it to fit no problems. If you get a double DIN one you would have to modify the plastic around the radio to get it to fit. The stock speaker/amp system requires an adapter that is around $100 to work with a 'regular' replacement head unit. I opted to put in a whole new system of speakers and amps so it wasn't an issue
Having to have to deal with cheap plastic surrounds is a thing of the past. There are 2 guys that do faceplates for aftermarket single din units that look very nice. PAC is just a company that makes ausio adapters. Do a google and you will see tons of stuff on these.
