Default 2.5 or 3.0" X-Pipe

I recently bought a 2000 vette and I'm looking to put a cat-back system on with an x-pipe. Can anyone explain the difference in performance between a 2.5 or 3" x-pipe. Also, does the difference in diameter require any additional pipes or possibly welding?

I've read in 'vette publications that a 3" almost ALWAYS makes more power. I went with the standard 2.5" due to cost.

Have you guys seen the new "X" muffler by Dynomax? kinda interesting, but i doubt it would fit anywhere in our C5 tunnel.

I purchased the magnaflow 3" x-pipe and am considering installing it. I was concerned about the car being too loud (magnaflow mufflers) and possibly losing a little low end torque. Feedback has been split about down the middle.

Default 2.5"vs3"

If you are not doing anything else to the engine 2.5" will be fine. If you are planning of H/C package or other HP mods go with the 3". Almost all headers end in 3" pipe, so 3" hi-flo cats and entire 3" system is way to go for horsepower.
