Default New clutch recommendations

I bought a 98' coupe 3 years ago with 35k miles on it which now has 41k. The only mods I've made are '01 wheels and I just put a Haltech Stinger cold air intake and a Borla Stinger cat back exhaust. Recently I noticed my clutch pedal doesn't engage at the point it used to and it doesn't shift into gear as easily as before. I don't beat on the car but I think I need to replace the clutch. Any suggestions?

I have a stock 99 LS1 clutch and Flywheel with 18k miles on them for $80. lol, sorry had too. I don't know that much about the C5 but I would check the clutch master cylinder for fluid first, bleed the hydraulic system ,second, and check it out. You can remove the inspection cover to check the flywheel/clutch out too i believe, but don't quote me on that.

If the clutch is bad I would either go with a 04 Z06 or the new C6 Z06 clutches as they will work just fine for your needs

Sounds like your clutch might be on the way out. Try flushing the fluid and see if that helps. If you do need a clutch I would say the Z06 clutch will be more than enough for you. If you do replace the clutch also change the slave cylinder and make sure that the clutch gets checked for balance before installing it. Good luck.

I second the C6 Z06 clutch (with flywheel)... ~$480 shipped from Fred Beans.

I got a used Spec Stage 3 off of a forum membor. After writing back and forth several times on wear specs Spec informed me that I could just have it repucked for $60 if I felt it was too used and that anyone could do a resurface on the Spec steel flywheel. So for $60 and the cost of surface job I'd be brand new again everytime I smoked it out sold me on it. Oh, and I got a response from them within 1/2 hour every time. Six or seven times I believe.

If you go through clutches like I do this might be something to put in your equation. If not, the ZO6 one can't be beat.

I just finished the LS-7 clutch and I did everything the slave, master, pilot, press. plate, clutch disk, and flywheel. I love it. Gene is a great guy to deal with.

blkonblk,

Did you have the LS-7 clutch assembly balanced befor you installed it? If not does it run smoothly from the factory? Thanks.
