I have seen several ads for xenon filled replacement bulbs that fit the stock headlight housing/fitting. These are not and don't pretend to be HID but are advertised to have greater lumen output than the factory tungsten/halogen whatever bulb.
Has anyone on here had experience with these bulbs? If so, what do you think of them? Real light improvement or
Hi, I have replaced the O.E.M. bulbs, both upper and lower beams, with Sylvania Silver Stars and are truly satisfied in all respects. I feel that the illumination is 80 % greater than the O.E.M.'s. Good Luck !
I replaced the stock bulbs with the Sylvania Silver Stars, the light is whiter not brighter. I went with the HIDs sold on the forum by not-mee, that is the way to go if you truly want more light.
I read some place that the incandescent bulbs that say they are xenon are purely a marketing ploy. They add a bit of xenon gas to the bulb that does nothing for the light output but they can put xenon on the box. Just restating what I read, I don't know how true it is.
I noticed a big improvement over the OEM when I switched to Silverstars. It was like night and day. If you decide to go with HIDs, Downsouthcorvettes and TBYRNE are having an incredible sale right now.
Seriously, before you go to HIDs, try PIAA Xtreme White Plus 9005 bulbs modified to fit in your Lbeams.I 've tried Silverstars,StreetGlow120watters,Nokias Xenon,Eurodezigns Xenon,HIR Toshibas (very bright but yellowish light),all 9005s moded to fit in low beams, but I think for light rivaling HIDs the PIAAs are best.I've been next to cars with HIDs & with the PIAAs it does'nt seem like they have much of a difference.
I personaly think they are so close I can't justify spending 1000$ to get a little better lighting than the PIAAs.For 60-80$ or so ,I think, at a fraction of cost of HIDs most people would be very satisfied with these bulbs.I could think of a lot of other ways to spend 1000$ for my C5!

i have zenon "hyper white" bulbs in stock wattage in my 04 vert and in my 03 avalanche. brighter and very white. very close to the hid look. they are great. $40 from pep boys.
You might try an HID conversion. That's what I installed and is was really easy. The kit cost me $349 for the low beams and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Super easy to install. All you do is replace the bulbs and mount the ballasts. Great light. I got 'em from www.highintensityxenon.com.
ok, thanks, i called the guys at www.highintensityxenon.com. I think I may take your advice and order a kit. Did you buy a low beam and a high beam xenon kit from them? Lifetime warranty, can't beat that!
Yeah better go with the hid, ive seen alot of people have trouble with the higher wattage bulbs(nokya piaa etc) over time the wattage makes the harness hotter until it melts sooner or later. Do it right the first time get a real time HID kit u wont regret it.

I got the low beam HID kit, but that created a problem. The improvement was so great, I called back and ordered the high beams too. I've seen photos comparing the difference between halogens and HIDs, but they don't even come close to showing the improvement that you see from behind the wheel. Unbelivable, and what really blows me away is how easy the installation was. If I can figure out how to post a picture I will. After I installed the driver side light, I had to run out to the store. The difference was so big with an HID on one side and a halogen on the other, I drove back to the house to get my camera and take a picture.
Let me know if you need anymore questions answered.
The rebasied bulbs are not very reliable.
I don't think anyone has been rebasing bulbs in the last 5 years. I checked a bunch of places and either nobody knew what I was talking about or they said that was something done way back when. There are now a lot of companies making precision HID lamps, which is one of the reasons costs have come down, and also the reason some are covered by a lifetime warranty.

If they are marketing under philips or osram they are rebased.
Where did you find a lifetime HID bulb?

http://www.highintensityxenon.com-- the company I ordered the kit from. I also called to verify and they confirmed. I just found out a friend of mine bought a set for his BMW over a year ago and has never had a problem.
