Having had the GM recall done last year, I was still getting periodic "pull key wait 10 secs" messages so decided CLB from Thunder Racing was next. Easy install today, just wonder how many are still getting this message after CL Sim install? Thunder Racing website says 98% effective at preventing this.
Appreciate any comments.
I've done many of the CLB's. If the "Pull Key..." or "Service Column Lock" show afterward I disconnect the battery for a few minutes then reconnect. They never reappeared.
I did the recall on my 2003 Z06, Started getting the pull key wait 10 sec message occasionally, Last weel I got the service steering colum lock message and the car won't run. It has been at the dealership since friday, They still don't know what is wrong with it, I tried putting on the bypass kit but it didn't help.
Here are some very interesting things that I have figured out from the two C5's that i have owned and installed the CLB. First,,if your getting the PULL KEY WAIT 10 SEC message, the resistor contacts in your key are dirty or worn or the contacts in the ignition switch that read the resistor in the key are not reading the key correctly cause there dirty or worn. The security system is not receiving the correct resistor code. If you don't pull and wait and then reinstall the key, you will be able to start the car (before the most recent CL recall) but if you try to move the car, the engine will shut off.
If your column lock motor is not working properly, installing the CLB will not help. Restore everything back to normal OEM. Make sure that your column lock motor is working correctly. If you have any column lock DTC codes, the system will not work correctly and you must clear the codes.
I,m not familiar with the new harness for the latest recall and cant help you with that.
Once you get the Column Lock motor working normally, follow the CLB install directions and use the power cord supplied to retract the cylinder rod using the CL motor then install the bypass.
If your still getting the pull key message, the resistor in the key or the ignition cylinder contacts are causing it.
Got my car back today, The dealer took off the K harness and installed the bypass I took them from Thunder racing, Everything is fine now. They said GM has had several of the K harnesses fail.
Heading out for drive this evening.... no "pull key" message but "service column lock" comes on EVERY start.... tried about 10 times, both keys ,same result. I'm thinkin' maybe Bill's comment about the ignition may be the culprit. I have cleaned both keys with alcohal recently. I will try Thunder Racing tomorrow but not very optimistic... I guess I will try removing the sim again.
Later this evening, reread all the posts here and noticed that it helps to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, so tried that and got a clean start a couple of times but now the messages are back. Back to square one.
