New Lugs?
Dave
-Rims and Tires have to be affordable (<$500) and DOT legal
-Tires have to hook up better than run flats with little to no heating up
-Rims would have to look similar to the stock rims (just trying to stay pretty :D)
-Don't cause any problems with the traction control
-Don't hook up so good that I kill my clutch or my rear end
-Tires have the potential to be used for road racing if I get the itch
I could have went with some 15 or 16 inch rims and slicks, but they wouldn't look all that great with the stock 17's up front. They also wouldn't be street legal. I had plans of running 17's in the rear with BFG drag radials, but couldn't find them at Wal-Mart, Discount Tire, Tire Rack, or Online Tires. In both of these scenarios, I didn't want to heat up the tires as much as these would require. I ended up selling the set of stock Y2K rims I had, and spent the money on a nitrous kit.
As fate would have it, I bought the nitrous kit from J99FRC who just happened to have a pair of 18x11 Forge Line rims with 335/30 BFG Comp T/A ZR tires. Best of all, they were at a very reasonable price...so reasonable that I couldn't pass them up.
The ZR tires are probably some of the best high performance street tires on the market, and Forge Line rims are some of the best rims available. The rims have seen better days, but for the price, I can live with a few scratches on my drag rims.
To make a long story shorter, I figure the wider 335's will hook up better than the 275's, the rims are similar to the stock rims, the tires are street legal, don't require a lot of heating up (just enough to get the gravel and dirt off), and the price was very, very right. :yesnod:
Maybe when I burn off the ZR's, maybe Nitto or BFG will finally have an 18 inch drag radial.
