I have owned three C3 Vettes in the past and recently had a drive of a 99 model C5 and one of the options this car had was what I believe is called :F45 Selective Real Time Damping". There were three modes on the switch being Performance,Sports and Tour. I was told that this system is a "gimmick" which does not stay in operating condition for very long anyway. I thought this explanation from a sales person was a bit ordinary. Can anyone explain to me how this F45 system operates on the rear end please?
The F-45 option is a "Susupension" option and will change the ride of the car by stiffening up the shocks. The rear end will not be affected by the various settings of this option. It does work and I use it alot. Tour is the softest ride, then sport, and finally performance. The button next to the slective ride control, which is traction control, will affect the rear end in the way that with the system activated, which it always is at startup, If you start to spin your wheels, the traction control will ease off the throttle and apply braking to the wheels to reduce the wheel spin. Not much fun to me!! I always disable the traction control
I have F-45
I notice a differance between the tour and performance, but I can tell between tour and sport, or sport and performance.
It is a nicer soft ride while cruising on the highway. I flip to performance when im playing on mountian side streets.
If I was road racing, sure Id change to the 06Z06 shocks, But I dont. I did change the front and rear sway bars, and that was a great upgrade in handling of the car!!!
