Just picked up an '01 Vert M6 last week. The steering column does not lock, so I'm assuming that one of the recalls has been done. I got the "remove key- wait 10 seconds" warning once, had to change out the battery later that day, and haven't had any problems starting the car, but the Security light is always on. What gives? Any way to shut it off? Will a CBT help? What do you guys think?
Why would a recall remove your steering lock? Maybe an aftermarket bypass was installed and that is the cause of your light? I have not heard of a recall that would remove it but I don't know all for sure.
I have had my steering column lock fixed twice under warr since new, a 99 vert. it works fine now - the security light is on only for a few seconds when started, Once in a while - monthly or so, it stays on after starting, I shut if back off and start it again and all is well. I wonder how these cars will be electronically when they are 20 years old.
