from what i understand, you need to get c6 repro wheels with a c5 offset. oem c6 wheels dont fit correctly...i think?

If you bought OEM - original equipment C6 wheels, the fronts will be fine. The rears will require a hub adapter since the OEM rears have 79mm of offset and may rub on the inner wheel well. If you purchased aftermarket wheels, they are probably the correct C5 offset and will fit without modifications. OEM wheels are not chrome, but polished.

Default stock C5 offsets

Just so you are aware, the stock offsets for C5 wheels are:
Front:58mm
Rear: 65 mm

If you go any less than this, the wheels will stick further out from the body. 10 mm equals just over 3/8 of an inch. One inch equals 25 mm.

If you get a 1" adapter (billet alum) for the rear, you will be fine. The tires won't stick out. This is, if you are installing the factory c6 wheels, not the repos with the c5 offset. The front you can install without any adapters, spacers etc.....If you order the adapters, get the ones with the "concentric hub" as part of the machining. It will make certain that your new wheel is centered when you tighten it down.

Default C6 Chrome Wheels for C5

Knight1975,

Just my .02, But I would strongly recomend going with a set of reproduction C6 style C5 size wheels. This wheel combination is currently in stock at Corvettes of Houston and available for immediate delivery. Also avaiable are C5 offset 18-19 combo. Feel free to give the parts dept. a call if you have any questions (800)829-6434

Hope this helps

I was thinking about going the C6 OEM route and my opinion is that:

1) OEM wheels will retain their value at resale alot more that repros and should be easier to resell
2) In general, the OEM wheels are of a known quality
3) I have heard that using a spacer isn't a good idea, but haven't heard any reasoning for this opinion
4) There are forum members that have used the spacer for the rear and are satisfied that they took that route

So, all in all I would have no problem using the OEM wheels, and if I went with the C6 look, that's what I would do.
Good luck on whatever your choice may be.

Spacers reduce the amount of thread that the lugnuts can grab - thus weakening the grip. However, here we are talking about hub adapters. The adapters actually bolt on to your original hub just like a set of wheels would. Then they have new studs that are used to attach the wheels. With these, you do not have the loss of grip.

Like this.....

Default Re. C6 wheels for C5

Spacers = Scary

Installing spacers on any vehicle regardless if it is a Corvette or a 20 inch lifted 3/4 ton truck, A 1/4 inch spacer or 3 inch w/ studs. I have seen first hand what happens to a vehicle when these things break, and it is not pretty. I understand everyone has thier own point of view on the subject, However my mind set is you could save a little money now and roll the dice, But odds are if one cuts loose while your tooling down the blvd not only will you tear your car up, You could be seriously injured. IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT.
