Default squeak...squeak...SQUEAK!!

its getting on my nerves!! i bought the car used from a dealer about a month ago...and when i test drove it, it had a slight squeak, but by the end of the drive it was gone...the salesman said that if the squeak came back EVER theyd fix it no charge...(i got it on paper too)...well every now and then it would squeak then disappear...one morning i woke up early and took it to the dealer, and the moment i got there...NO SQUEAK!! figures...well, last night it started squealing LOUD...so i decided to take a little look...facing the engine, the top left pulley is the tensioner pulley right?...well it is vibrating and i believed that it was squeaking so i held it in place to stop the vibrating...and sure enough it STOPPED squeaking...can anyone tell me what is going on?...do i need to replace this peice or what?...i sprayed alil bit of WD40 but didnt do much at all....and half way to work this morning, the squeak disappeared again...HELP!!!

One of either the harmonic balancer or the idler tensioner needs replacement.

Our cars have two belts and two tensioners...

Remove one belt and then the other to determine if you can isolate the squeek to the inner or outter belt. Replace appropriate tensioner.

Not a problem. Tensioners are ~$40-60 at the local auto parts store.

I had to replace the a/c belt tensioner a couple of years ago.

I had an intermittent squeek coming from "under" my 00 C5 it turned out to be a worn through rear shock upper rubber grommet - it took forever to track that down! Was a cheap fix though!
