Default wiper control module replacement

I have a 99 vert and the wipers only work on high - no intermittent and they do not park. Dealer says the control module is NG but it's not sold seperately. New wiper motor installed is 470.

I searched and found the control moduile on rockauto for 54 bucks. It's ordered. Anyone replaced this? I do have the factory manuals and the instrucs are there for removal, but there is no specific control module information. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this module only replacement? Any input?

thanks
Roy

I have in fact done this!! It isn't difficult but it is aggravating. The very first thing that I would do is find a LARGE sheet of card board. Cut it so that it covers the ENTIRE windshield! If one tool falls on the windshield,,,well you can fill in the rest!

Before the module comes, remove the two caps that cover the bolt wells on the wiper arms and soak them with PB Blaster or WD-40 over night. Then remove the nuts, wiper arms (make sure you mark the arms as to which side goes where!) and then the plastic cowl.

You may have to reposition the arms/rods on the wiper assembly to get the entire assembly out. Make sure that you plug it back in and get it in the park position or manually put it in the park position once its out.

IMPORTANT! When you remove the module from the motor, there will be a cam assembly and a micro switch with an arm inside the controller. Position the new controller cam in the same position as the old one and install the new controller. Then position the arm/rods so that the assembly will go back in the cowl easy and bolt her back in place! Before you reassemble everything, plug it in, turn it on and make sure that everything works as expected!

I kind of messed up the little black plastic removable rivits that secure the cowl to the car and just went to the GM Parts desk and ordered a bag of them!

thanks for the input Bill.
The service manual says to tape the wiper arms to the windsheild to assist in positioning them during reassembly.. I appreciate the input on the cam and nuts..

Thanks again!

All done! Easy job and a LOT cheaper!

I do understand your concern for the windsheild - did you learn that the hard way?

thanks again!
