Default closed loop question

How does the C5 engine and computer go into closed loop operation? Way back in the OBD1 days, the cars would typically go into closed loop at a certain temperature from a temp sending unit. Is this still the case with the C5? If so, at what temp?

Is it safe to say that with a 160 t-stat the engine is going to be in close loop then?
