In the November issue of Vette magazine, page 25, there is an ad for "The Ultimate Ram Air System" from VaraRam Industries. 35 hp for $499. No chopping, cutting or drilling.
They are claiming 4 tenths and 3.8 mph in the quarter mile and 7 mph top speed. It draws air from behind the fog lights and uses a K&N filter. http://www.vararam.com (website seems to be underconstruction)

Looks like an interesting design....airflow from the fog shroud is ducted to the MAF sensor. I'd be interested in having a setup like that with my open Z06 screens.
seanr,
That's a neat idea, VERY VERY   .Where did you get the flanges, and what size did you use, as I'd also like to do this one.
Thanks,
Mike
It's not that much difference. It's not possible to measure the power increase on a dyno becuse the car need to be moving in at least 30mph to get some kind of 'ram' effect. My butt-o-meter tells me that it pulls stronger at high rpms but I have not done any 1/4 mile tests yet. I have added Z06 screens so it's not possible to see the air-intakes anymore which makes it look better.
The flanges are bass-reflex ports made for speakers I have used a flexible tube with a integrated steelwire to avoid having the tube collapsing when bending it. The inner dia is 80mm.
To get back to the initial topic I would be interested to hear from someone who have tested this 35hp intake !
My timing chain broke in May but I have not done anything to the car yet because of the costs involved. I will send the engine to DRM for repair and tuning later this year and plan to have the car running again in april next year but it all depends on how costly the repairs will be.

Sorry I have to tell you this ...... ;) I've been at 193mph and the rev-limiter hit at 6500rpm in fifth gear, car was very stable. Did not try to continue in 6th gear :D
I swapped out the 3:42 gearing for a 3:73 so I do not think I can go faster than about 177mph now. I'm not so interested in top speed because I never reach that kind of speeds on any racetrack in sweden.
Seanr, What filter are using in the box? From the box on, What do you use for MAF, Bridge, body, and port? Are you worried about ingesting strange things into your engine? This is interesting, soon it will be in all the catologes!
:seeya
The filter used is the standard Vortex filter. I'm just feeding more air to it. I'm using the stock MAF without screen, Halltech Cobra, Halltech ported throttlebody, Z06 Intake manifold.
This is the parts I've tried but have removed and put on the shelf=waste of money:
1. Granatelli MAF -> Engine knocking, can't be tuned with a MAF Translator
2. Breathless MAF-ends with airfoil-> Engine knocking, can't be tuned with a MAF Translator
3. Breathless Relocated MAT sensor -> Engine knocking
4. Throttlebody coolant bypass -> Buy a long hose for $1
5. BBK 80mm Throttlebody -> Bad idle
6. Breathless 172-178 Thermostat -> Engine running to cool
These are just my observations...or my $0.02 worth so don't take as a flame becaue I might be fos
greenbeast, how do you keep that beautifull spolier from getting bashed? I'm lucky to keep my frame from abuse after lowering only 1"
CDhough, not possible to get 35 hp from just an air induction system. My ram ari kit is, in my opinion the best out there and with the cat back exhaust sytem probably gave me 20 hp. But you have to think air induction and exhaust together. 35 hp from just a "ram air" kit is :bs :bs
seanr, I thought my ram air kit was pretty basic, but I'm sure that because of the way air (swirl) effects flow through the MAF it makes a diff. I think that if you want to experiment before spending $300+ bucks on a system, it is worthwhile.
PoBoyRacer, 30 hp for $40 WTF are you talking about?? Not possible but you probably won't spend $100 to dyno a back up. Sorry that was a flame!
:smash:
seanr, very valuable info on mods that didn't work. thanks!! ;)
greenbeast, 185 mph...how long did it take to get there? 1 mile? 2 miles?
I am (over the next few weeks as I am waiting on parts to get here) building this same setup but using 4" "flexible" tubing instead. I will keep you guys posted on the results. In addition, I will NOT be cutting the shroud.. thus all airflow will come from the dual 4" front tubes..
I am currently in touch with a plastic co to re-produce front foglight covers that will recess to accomidate the tubing in a similar style to "seanr's" speaker port tubes. In other words - they will just slip on and can use a clamp like on our "air bridge" to the throttle body. The recessment "should" allow/cause more directional air flow into the tubes.. I will also be covering the front fog lights with Z06 screens... :D just for extra protection against the solid elements on the road.
well see how it goes..

FYI - I am NOT attempting to get "rumored" 35HP outta this setup - I have been wanting to go back to the Vortex for a while now - but also have been worried about moisture intake (as I had a "problem" with the Vortex last time) thus I am just trying a new technique that should eliminate/reduce moisture problems I had before.. cause if you take on water at the fog light level - there is no saving your BUTTTT anyways.. LOL :D
