Default 500$ to spend

two options I have.

1. buy a cam. lg G5X3 cam and an tranny cooler

2. buy an slp blackwing intake, new spark plugs (plat. 4's), plug wires (high performance), and tranny cooler.

eithor way i need a tranny cooler stupid stuff running too damn hot for my taste.

I have a 99 a4 coupe. What will be the best bet for me to do.

Thanks guys in advance

Default Cam

To install the cam you will need new springs, pushrods and gaskets- another $300-400. Go with option 2.

Option 1. if it takes more $$ then shell it out. Option 2 won't make any difference except make your wallet lighter.

500 dollars will buy you a tune.....you are now out of money and have not added anything... You just cant throw a cam in the car ...the tune is needed to make the car take advantage of the new cam profile...
any real cam will require new springs, gaskets, push rods, and a tune...
any thoughts of a cam is about a 1500 dollar investment..

And the 1500 would probably be on the low end of the scale. Lg's cam kit, which would be the G5X3 (in your case) springs, push rods, etc. is $1400. Then if you don't have the know how to install would be another 400 to 600 or more and then the tune for 500. I spoke with them the other day and their cam kit installed with a tune is 2,400. There are some cam kits you can get for 700 or so, but as you can see that's just the start of it.

But Texas Speed has a cam kit that would cost a fraction of what was quoted above even intalled, so shop around.

Option 3: K&N with zip tie mod, used catback exhaust off the forum, and tranny cooler.

K&N with zip tie will flow very similar to the blackwing for a fraction of the cost. A used catback will add ~20rwhp with the new air filter setup.

Plugs and wires won't gain you anything unless your existing ones are worn out.

Tranny cooler will definitely help.

Start saving ~$1000 for a cam OR Headers...but keep in mind they need to be done together for optimal gains (~70rwhp).

I think Dr. Chill has posted the best suggestion, but I'm going with a Callaway Honker for my $500, I have a buddy that is a tuner.
