Default Fast intake install

I also posted this on the "other" forum

For anyone that has installed a FAST intake;

1. Can you use the TB gasket (rubber) from the old Z06 intake, or will I need a new one since it is a 90mm? (you would think for the cost that these things would come with one)

2. Are their any obvious things to "port/clean up" on them that will slightly improve their performance without sending it off for a full port job. (There's no way the wife will let me spend $500 more right now!!!)

3. Is there anything else I'm going to need before I do this install. (I am taking a day off from work to install the intake, TB, Dave's N2O plate, and a high flow bridge, and I don't want to get hung up in the middle of it needing to order some fittings etc.)

4. Mike Norris just did a dyno tune on this car after I installed the heads. I have since installed a 3" x-pipe and will add the above items. Will I need to "re-tune"??

Thanks

1) You will use the round (larger) gasket that FAST does provide. Your stock one will not work with a 90 mm version

2) My advice is to either have it ported or leave it alone....Based on your current situation, leaving it alone sounds best (Its just as easy, or easier perhaps, to hurt the intake and cause a loss in power if "cleaned up" or ported inproperly). There will still be some nice gains just bolting it on right out of the box (10-15 would be typical with a ported LS2 or aftermarket billet TB such as an NW unit).

3) You might consider purchasing the FAST O-Rings that go around each port....they are thicker than stock and will do a better job sealing up your intake than your used, crushed, stock gaskets. The new O-rings only cost around $30-35

4) A retune would take the most advantage of the swap, but as long as your still running your MAF, it should still compensate and provide extra fuel to augment the extra air the better designed intake will provide. A new tune is not necessary but wouldn't hurt to maximize your recent "upgrades"....

Good Luck...

Tony

Watch the valley bolts. Be sure to use the included ones, otherwise you'll crack your intake when you bolt it down.
You may need some additional hose for the vacuum line that goes to the back of the intake manifold. IIRC, I used 1/8" rubber hose to lengthen it.

Thanks for the input guys;

I had heard that you could do more harm than good if you ported them incorrectly. I was wondering why the "ridges" are located in the lower intake runners. Do they have a purpose, or did the engineers just not bother to adjust the mold design to elimate them.
Bottom line, should I remove them?
