'99 coupe fell flat on it's face twice on acceleration last night. It stayed running but the odor from the exhaust was not the typical rotten egg smell but it burned your eyes.. Each time I backed off it returned to normal idle but if you hit it again it was like a carb dump in the old days.Stumble and just barely move forward. After the second time it went away and ran fine after that. The smell also vanished. This happened once about 5 months ago with the old engine. This is a completely stock set up except for the cone shaped air filter which was on the car when I purchased it. I scanned for codes and came up clean. Anyone have any suggestions? Also anyone replaced the a/c compressor yet? Opinions on remanufactured , used , new? Need to change it this week.
There have been cases where the stock accordian tube from the air bridge to the throttle body have collapsed and almost killed the engine. I would check for that condition. If you have a silicone coupler, that shouldnt be a problem. If you do have the accordian problem let me know. I have a new silicone coupler.
If your not having any codes, it would tent to lean towarsd a secondary ignition problem. It could also be a loose or defective battery cable. make sure that they are tight and clean.
Thanks I will check all of your suggestions. The hose is a silicone smooth tube which the po made an x cut in to push the sensor in.Thought it could have been done a little better. How many miles is anyone going before cleaning the air filter?
Battery cable is new and I checked for corrosion on both ends .
The A/C compressor just started rattleling really loud so I need to locate one of them now too. I found a vendor on ebay that has new ac delco compressors for $335. Does anyone deal with another source?
Some of the guys at work make a license plate out of paper and placed it over my actual plate. It said "B.O.A.T." I asked them what it stood for and they replied Break Out Another Thousand.
Check the wiring harness for the fuel injectors at the rear of the driver's side head. There is a black metal bracket which can chafe through the insulation and reall mess things up.
I clean my filter (K&N) every 6 months. If you have a paper filter, once a year is fine. If yiuy have any air leaks between the MAF and the TB, that is a BAD thing and it will effect the way your car runs. It may not be the cause of your issue, but it still should be sealed!! I agree about checking the harness on top of the engine on the drivers side. Make sure it isnt chaffed!!!
