I've just started experiencing this problem, where when I turn on my headlights....only the right one comes up. I turn them off, and then right back on again and they both come up fine. This had happened twice now in the last two weeks. I THINK that both times I had started it up in the garage and turned on the parking lights. Once out of the garage (after a probably 1 minute warm-up time), I turn on the headlights and only the right one comes up. What's up with that?
I have also noticed since winter that my left headlight (the one that won't come up the first time), squeaks when it lowers. I have tried spraying some lube on the joints, but have had no success. I was told by someone on the forum that when it got warmer it would go away, it has not. I don't know if this is related, but just wanted to give all relevant information.
Any ideas?
P.S. I've replaced the gear in the right headlight already, have not touched the left one. Right headlight had different symptoms.
The headlights stop coming up when they encounter a certain amount of resistance... they assume they hit the bumper in the fully raised position. Since you haven't touched the left gears, it could be early symptoms of the plastic gear starting to strip itself.
