Donaldson's Blackwing
Hi
I just bought a blackwing off a member that came off an 02 and going onto my 02.
The instructions seem straight forward but l have a knack to screw things up. Is there anything that l have to watch out for or know of any tricks.
Do l have to really disconnect the battery and if l do can l only disconnect the neg terminal. What size socket would l need.
I hope you get the hint that this makes me a little nervous because l don't want to screw up my vette.
Do l need the smooth bellows ?
I live in central New Jersey so if l can get a little help l would appreciate it!

Blackwing
I think that the most common problem is air leaks at the couplings on each end of the air bridge.

The install is pretty straightforward and not hard at all.The "disconnect the battery" thing is pretty much a CYA thing for GM and various other aftermarket manufacturers. You can leave the battery disconnected and as long as you don't start the car before you finish, there will be no problems. Even if you should, the worst that would happen is that it would not run smoothly and/or you throw a few trouble codes, none of which "life threatening" to your engine.
The main tip I like to give on the Blackwing is to pre-assemble all the hoses, bellows etc, and leave all the clamps just a little bit loose until you finish getting the whole assembly back into position on the car. That allows you to move things and adjust everything in order to get them into the correct position, then tighten and check all hoses etc. Kinda like doing an exhaust system install. Same reason.
Another tip would be to install the two rubber mounting grommets into the holes on the Blackwing and then wet them just a little so they will slide onto the two mounting studs easier. I think you'll like the Blackwing.
HTH,
Robert
BTW, the smooth coupler that connects to the throttle body is nice but not necessary. It certainly doesn't hurt anything, but the gain in power is pretty small.

You may want to clean it prior to installation if it has been run before, just to make sure.

Thanks for the tips !!!!!!!
It's really strange that l can do anything around the house but when it comes to my vette l get paranoid.
I have heard so many stories about people doing things themselves trying to save a dollar and when all is done it cost's them $100.
But l enjoy tinkering.

Blackwing installation is pretty straight foward...If you can pick your nose and put it in a Kleenex then you should be able to put on a Blackwing
