I never did it on a C5, but have done it often on other cars I've worked on. I've only seen them pressed it. As long as you have enough clearance from the back side to slip it out, you just pound the old one towards the car. Once it breaks free, slip it out. Some cars have a notch in the hub for adequate clearance.
Some cars don't have adequate clearance. Then the hub needs to be disassembled.
To install the new one, use a bunch of washers over the new stud, and tighten the lug nut to press the new stud on. Be sure the stud is 100% seated before installing the wheel.
I just went thru this process. I installed DRMs chrome moly studs at all four corners. I read the how to in the manual and decided to do it as one member posted a few months ago. I drilled a hole in the backing plate, dremeled the housing out to allow the old studs to be taken out
and the new ones installed. You might not want to do it this way as it does leave a hole in the backing plate and there is some grinding to be done on the bearing housing. I did it because of the amount of work involved in taking the rear axle assemblies and related parts off just to get the hub out.
