Intake question.....do you really have to replace it all??
When you read the horsepower claims on each of the individual intake components (filter, MAF ends, air bridge, smooth coupler) it comes out that by replacing all of them you will get about 40 horsepower. The integrated systems, however, never claim that much. I know that the claim for each component is probably shaded to the high side, and that's not my question. What I want to know is which of these components gives you the biggest bang, and which ones give less. I'm considering getting the Blackwing air filter. Will I get most of the horses with the new filter, or do I need the increased air flow that comes with the rest of the stuff?

I'd say that 90% of the power gain comes from the actual filter assembly. The Donaldson/SLP Blackwing is a constant favorite because it doesn't need shroud cutting, is designed very well, and leaves the cold air option later. The smooth coupler and air bridge are for looks only, I doubt they give any performance increase at all on a stock engine. The MAF mods cause more trouble than they're worth unless you're willing to get an autotap and MAT Translator. Get the filter-it's where the gains are.

Ditto, Get the Blackwing or your choice of breath of air for your LS1 and hang on.. BTW, All of those claims of 4-8 HP here and 2-3 there, do NOT add togther in series, they help each other a bit but you could at most get a combined 15 HP form all of those little deals, like MAT, MAF ENDs, Connectors, wires, plugs, I would say that the next best is the loader or PP3
