Default Honker Installation Questions

I am trying to install my Honker. I am on step 10. During step 7, with the Honker installed, you are supposed to put tape around the outline of the airbox, which I did. However, in step 10 with the airbox removed, you are to tape the template to the radiator shroud. In the figure, it shows the template is the same width as the airbox but mine is the width of the filter base so the paper template doesn't reach the airbox outline as shown in the instructions. Here is how mine looks:

Here is the figure from the instructions:

I was going to measure and place the template so the drill holes will center on the filter base. Has anyone else run into this and what did you do?

Also, the filter base has more shroud on one side than the other (see arrows, left side narrower than right side), but appears to be centered fairly well on the depression. Is this how yours is installed?

I don't want to screw up cutting the shroud, although I am sure there is some forgiveness in the measurements.

i just did mine a couple of weekd ago. my template lined up, but when i finished the cutting and indtalling it. i was about 1/4 inch off, i could not mount it on the 2 supports on top of the shroud, i just removed the 2 supports and installed it and it looks fine. other than that it looks fine. when i hooked up my predator to see the intake air temps, it was within 5 degrees of outside temps.

So your template was as large as the outer air box?

I just did mine a couple of weeks ago and it looked pretty much like your picture. I spent a little extra time placing the whole air box on the shroud a couple of times once the shroud was out of the car and made sure the template was lined up properly. It was a little off center as you show but worked fine. I cut the plastic shroud with a razor knife. Was pretty easy to do. When finished, everything lined up for me perfectly and went together nicely. Very good product.

I test fit mine a few times and made sure that the template was centered between the tape.

you didn't get the tape close enough to the air box. re-install and try again.

I just finished my 01, the tape goes against the base or slightly under the top cover, then the outer edge of the template lines up on 3 sides the cuts on the top of the template will center it for you, just take your time, measure twice cut once, mine turned out perfect and is well worth the effort, this is a quality item. Good luck

Nope, it was lined up perfectly. The template is smaller than the air box, it is the same size as the filter base so it can't reach the tape as shown in the instructions. I will PM Callaway and let them jump in on this, maybe there was a change in the kit.

I think what I am going to do is re-install one more time to verify my tape position then cut out the main hole and drill the others (the old measure twice, cut once theory ). Then prior to drilling the filter base I am going to re-install and drill a couple of the filter base holes on the car to make sure it fits correctly.

Mine was the same way; the tape is the outer edge of the Honker. The cutout needs to be centered within you tape marks because the edge of the Honker is the same all the way around. Be sure to center the cutout box not the paper edge of the template.
