The hvac fan install on your c5. Questions on time needed to complete and difficulity factor..easy, involved, or mechanic required. I have need to complete this install because my hvac fan high setting produces a uncomfortable hum.

It could just be condensate from the AC condensor. I replaced mine last fall with a new fan. It cost under warranty about $60 and coame complete with fan and squirel cage. It's held in with 3 or 4 7mm hex screws and needs to be twisted and dropped out. There is a rubber tube that diverts air flow to the motor for cooling that get reconnected in the process. On a scale of difficulty, I'd say a 2 out of 4. It should only take you 1/2 hour to swap the parts out. You need to remove the knee pad cover on the lower edge of dash to gain access and one end has a bolt and the other is held in with velcro so just give it a tug.
The void where that fan lives contains the evaporator coil. When you run the AC, the coil condensates. There is a small black rubber 90 degree rubber boot on the outside of the passengers side fire wall. If that drain is clogged the water will build up in the void and leak out into the passengers foot well. If it clogs you may even hear some of the water hitting the rotor when you make turns or stop /start hard!
If the drain is clogged and the condensation leaks out it can damage the motor, damage the BCM, wet the passengers carpet/jute underlayment and cause mildew to start forming! Your car will start to smell like an old wet dog!
If you had mouse nest material in the fan rotor, chances are that the drain is clogged!!! I would remove the rubber boot and make SURE that that drain is free to drain!!
I have pictures at home but I can not access them here at work! There is a leak sticky post that has the pictures in it above the C5 Tech Community threads!!
