Default Blackwing question

Hi

I just received a used blackwing and l have a question regarding the need to clean it?

It looks overall in excellent condition but the filter is black and the pictures in the install instructions shows it a medium blue.

Does this mean it should be cleaned? And when recharging it does it become blue once again?

Thanks

Alan

The filter media is blue, so if yours is black, it could probably use a cleaning. If you don't have the cleaning kit, I've read that you can clean it with Simple Green, let it air dry, and re-oil it with mineral oil. Flush it from the inside to wash the dirt out of the filter.I've used that method with no ill effects. Just don't blast it with a hose or use an air hose to dry it or you can damage the filter media. I pour some mineral oil in one of the Preval paint sprayers you can buy at Home Depot for $4, but a pump type sprayer like on a Windex bottle would probably work also. Just give the oil some time to distribute evenly throughout the filter media, and don't over oil it or it will coat the MAF sensor, causing codes.
